Ingredients for Grinch Oreo Truffle Balls

Ingredients for Grinch truffles including Oreos, cream cheese, green candy melts, and red heart sprinkles arranged on a marble countertop.
  • Oreo cookies: Crushed cookies form the rich, chocolatey base for the truffle mixture.
  • Cream cheese: Softened cream cheese binds the crushed Oreos into a smooth, scoopable dough.
  • Green candy melts: Melted candy coating gives the truffles their festive Grinch-green outer shell.
  • White candy melts
  • Red heart sprinkles: These bright hearts add a whimsical touch and complete the classic Grinch look.

How to Make Grinch Oreo Truffle Balls

Toss the Oreos into a large zip-top bag and smash them with a rolling pin to make Oreo crumbs. If you prefer, you can use a food processor.

Crushed Oreo cookies added to a bowl of whipped cream cheese, ready to be mixed.

In a large bowl, combine the cookie crumbs with softened cream cheese to make a thick, sticky dough. I find it easier to use an electric mixer to soften the cream cheese before adding the crumbs.

Shape the Truffles

Scoop out small portions and roll them between your hands to make chocolatey little balls. Line them up on a parchment-covered baking sheet like well-behaved Whoville citizens.

Rolled chocolate truffles evenly spaced on a parchment-lined baking tray, ready for freezing.

Pop the tray in the freezer for 15–30 minutes so the balls firm up and don’t fall apart in the candy coating.

Dip and Decorate

Melt the green candy melts according to the package instructions.

Dip each truffle into the melted candy, ensuring it’s fully coated, and place it on parchment paper. A dipping fork or spoon can make this process easier.

Melt the white candy melts and drizzle over the coated truffles. You can get drizzle spoons that make this easy.

Press two red heart sprinkles onto each truffle before the drizzles set for the signature Grinch look.

Let Them Set

Allow the Grinch Oreo truffle balls to fully set at room temperature or in the refrigerator before serving.

Tips for Success

  • Chill the truffle mixture well before dipping, so the balls will hold their shape when placed in the hot candy mixture.
  • spring-loaded scoop is super handy for making evenly sized truffles.
  • If the Candy melt mixture seems too thick, thin it with a small amount of coconut oil. Be careful, as a little goes a long way.

Be careful not to overheat the candy melts—microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring each time until smooth. They can burn quickly and turn clumpy if overheated. Always use dry utensils when dipping; even a single drop of water can cause the coating to seize.
