When my kids were little, making these chocolate nests was one of our favorite Easter traditions.

I can still picture their tiny hands carefully pressing the mixture into muffin tins and giggling as they “sampled” a few candy eggs before they made it to the nests.

The kitchen was always a happy mess, but the joy on their faces made every bit of it worthwhile. Now, those nests bring back sweet memories every spring—and I’m thrilled to share this tradition with you!

Ingredients for Chocolate Easter Nests

How To Make Chocolate Easter Nests

Break up the shredded wheat biscuits, so they look like straw.

Mix semi-sweet chocolate and peanut butter in a large mixing bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until the mixture is silky and smooth. The rich chocolate aroma will make it hard to wait!

Add the shredded wheat to the bowl and gently mix until every piece is covered in the chocolatey coating. Don’t worry if it gets a little messy—that’s part of the fun!

Next, grab a cupcake pan and line it with paper liners. Scoop a generous spoonful of the mixture into each liner. Press the back of your spoon in the center, shaping it into a nest. Remember, perfection isn’t necessary; rustic nests are charming!

Place the pan in the freezer for about 15 minutes, letting the nests firm up to hold their shape.

While you wait, make your “grass.” Put some shredded coconut in a resealable bag, add a few drops of green food dye, seal it, and shake it well until the color is evenly distributed.

Once the nests have been set, remove them from the liners. Sprinkle a little green coconut “grass” inside each one for a festive touch.

Top each nest with three mini candy eggs, and you’re done! These adorable chocolate Easter nests are ready to wow your guests. Enjoy, and maybe sneak a taste before everyone else does!

Variations to Try

  • Use edible grass: Use edible grass or green sprinkles and skip the step of dying the coconut shavings.
  • Nut-free option: Use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter for an allergy-friendly version.
  • White chocolate twist: Replace semi-sweet chocolate with white chocolate for a lighter, sweeter nest.
  • Themed nests: Use pastel jelly beans, chocolate-coated almonds, or marshmallow chicks to match your Easter decor.

  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • ½ cup coconut shavings
  • Green food dye
  • Mini Cadbury Eggs or favorite candy eggs

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth.
  • Add shredded wheat to the melted mixture and fold gently until completely coated.
  • Line a cupcake pan with liners. Spoon a heaping tablespoon of the mixture into each liner and press down the center to form a nest.

  • Add a few drops of green food dye to a resealable bag with the coconut. Seal and shake until evenly colored.
  • Remove the firm nests from the liners, sprinkle with green coconut “grass,” and place three candy eggs in each nest.

Notes

Make cleanup easy: Use cupcake liners to keep things neat and make removing the nests from the pan easier.
For best results, lightly coat the inside of the cupcake liners with coconut oil or non-stick spray. This will make it easier to remove the nests without any sticking.
