Your Will Need

Using A Glue Gun With Children

It is important to have adult supervision when using a glue gun with children.

Although we use a “low temperature” glue gun, it can still cause burns if not used properly.

Children should be taught how to handle the glue gun safely, and an adult should always be present to supervise and assist if needed.

Tip: If you prefer not to use a glue gun, you can use self adhesive glue dots instead. You can also secure the antenna by using tape on the underside of the pot.

Instructions

Remove any tags or stickers from the clay pots.

step 1 of the winter bug craft -painting the pots

Paint on one coat of acrylic paint. Let it dry, and apply a second coat. Remember to wash your paintbrush immediately, or the paint will dry and ruin your brush.

While waiting for the pain to dry, you can prepare some things for later.

step 2 of the winter bug craft -making the antenna

Cut a chenille stem into four-inch sections, bend it in half, and then hot glue a pompom to each end. Set these to one side.

step 3 of the winter bug craft -cutting the shank off the snowflake buttons

Use the scissors to cut off the shank from the back of two snowflake buttons. Set these to one side.

Once the Paint is Dry

step 4 of the winter bug craft -attaching the snowflake ornament

Cut about a half inch from the bottom of the glittered snowflake ornament. Use the glue gun to attach it to the center of the clay pot.

step 5 of the winter bug craft adding polka dots

Accent the base of each winter bug with contrasting polka dots. Dip a new pencil eraser into a contrasting color and dab it onto the pot.

step 6 of the winter bug craft - finishing touches, eyes, antenna and cheeks

Place the antennae in the drain hole at the top of the pot and secure it with hot glue.

Add a face to the winter bug by hot gluing two wiggle googly eyes to the post.

Dip a new pencil eraser into pink acrylic craft paint and dot it on either side of the face to create cheeks.

Add The Finishing Touches

Glue the snowflake buttons and draw a mouth from cheek to cheek with a permanent black marker.

Finally, add a white tinsel pompom nose to each face. That’s it; you are done.
