Terracotta Pot Winter Bug

Cute terracotta winter bug using dollar-store clay pots and snowflake ornaments.

Equipment

  • Pair of scissors
  • Glue Gun and Sticks
  • Paintbrush

Materials

  • 1 Pencil with new Eraser
  • Clay Pots, 2.5"
  • 2 Snowflake Buttons
  • Small tinsel Pom Poms
  • Glittered Snowflake Ornaments
  • Acrylic craft paint Light Blue, Lavender, and Pink
  • Black Permanent Marker
  • White Chenille Stems
  • Googly eyes

Instructions

  • Paint the pots with two coats of acrylic paint. Let itdry
  • Cut about a half inch from the bottom of the glitteredsnowflake ornament. Use the glue gun to attach it to the center of the claypot.
  • Dip a new pencil eraser into a contrasting color and adda row of polka dots to the base of the pot.
  • Cut a chenille stem into four-inch sections, bend it inhalf, and then hot glue a pompom to each end. Place the antennae in the drainhole at the top of the pot and secure it with hot glue.
  • Add a face with googly eyes, two dabs of pink paint forcheeks, pompom nose, and mouth
  • Cut off the shank from the back of two snowflakebuttons and glue them to the pot.

Notes

It is important to have adult supervision when using a glue gun with children. Although we use a “low temperature” glue gun, it can still cause burns if not used properly. Children should be taught how to handle the glue gun safely, and an adult should always be present to supervise and assist if needed.
