This taco pizza is a total crowd-pleaser. Kids go crazy for it, adults can’t stop at one slice, and it’s the kind of recipe that gets requested again and again. It’s also really easy to customize — swap toppings in or out based on what your family loves.

What makes this version special? We’re making the dough from scratch. I know, I know — hear me out. Homemade pizza dough sounds intimidating, but it’s mostly just waiting. Once you’ve made it, you’ll never look back. The result is a thick, golden, chewy crust that holds up beautifully to all those hearty taco toppings.

This recipe is part of my Quick and Easy Family Recipes collection — your go-to hub for simple, comforting meals for busy school nights.

However, if you are short of time, feel free to purchase a pizza base and use that. It will work just as well.

Ingredients

Ingredients for the taco pizza recipe
  • A batch of pizza fough
  • 1 can (10 oz) refried beans
  • 1 lb Ground beef or turkey
  • Taco seasoning
  • 1½ cups shredded cheese
  • 1½ cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 can (4 oz) sliced black olives

How to Make Sheet Pan Taco Pizza

Step 1: Make the Dough

pizza dough raising in a bowl

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, yeast, flour, and salt.  Knead for about 10 minutes until a smooth ball forms. The dough should feel soft but not sticky.

Place the dough ball in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1–2 hours, until it has doubled in size. This is the “sit time” — perfect for getting the rest of your toppings prepped!

Spray your 10×15 sheet pan generously with cooking spray. Press and stretch the dough to cover the entire pan. If you prefer a thinner crust, use a little less dough and save the rest for another use (mini pizzas, anyone?).

Bake the dough at 375°F for 10 minutes. You’re not fully cooking it yet — just giving it a head start so it holds up to the toppings.

Step 2: Prepare Taco Meat

Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until no pink remains, breaking it up as it cooks. Carefully pour off any excess grease.

Mix in the taco seasoning along with water, following the amounts listed on the seasoning packet.

Let everything simmer until the meat is cooked through, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Add the Taco Toppings

Remove the crust from the oven and spread the refried beans evenly over the top. Then layer on the taco meat.

Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the meat and return the pizza to the oven for 5 more minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 3: Finish with Fresh Toppings

Pull it out of the oven and immediately top with the shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and sliced black olives. Slice into 8 pieces and serve right away!

Tips & Variations

  • Extra toppings to try: Sour cream dollops, sliced jalapeños, avocado or guacamole, hot sauce, or crushed tortilla chips for crunch.
  • Thinner crust: Use about ¾ of the dough and press it thinner on the pan. Bake time stays the same.
  • Make ahead: You can prep the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Pull it out 30 minutes before you’re ready to use it.
  • Leftovers: Store in the refrigerator. The pizza is actually delicious cold the next day — the flavors meld together beautifully.
  • Save Time: Use a premade pizza base and already-grated cheese
