Yarn Wrapped Heart Sign
Our beautiful, yarn-wrapped heart sign adds a special touch to any room. It would also be a lovely gift!
Kids of all ages will enjoy making this decoration! Younger children will have fun wrapping yarn around the hearts but will need help making the popsicle stick sign.
Older kids can use a glue gun to make the sign and attach their hearts to it.
This craft is an excellent way for children of all ages to work together. They can create something beautiful while allowing each child to take on a task appropriate for their skill level.
This yarn-wrapped heart sign is also perfect for group activities. It’s an excellent craft option for playdates, Valentine’s Day parties, youth groups, and classrooms.
The craft involves minimal mess, and that is always a plus. Although you may want to recruit some older volunteers to operate the glue guns.

Using A Glue Gun With Children
It is important to have adult supervision when using a glue gun with children. Although we use a “low temperature” glue gun, it can still cause burns if not used properly.
Children should be taught how to handle the glue gun safely, and an adult should always be present to supervise and assist if needed.
Tip: If you prefer not to use a glue gun, you can use white craft glue instead. White craft glue is safe and easy to use.
However, you should keep in mind that it will take longer to dry than a glue gun. So, you will have to wait for the glue to dry before moving on to the next step.

Materials Needed
- Red and Pink Yarn
- Jumbo Craft Sticks
- Dark Brown Acrylic Craft Paint
- Jute Twine
- Pink Gingham Ribbon
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (Low Temp)
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Dark Brown Acrylic Craft Paint
- Heart template
- Paintbrush
- Paper Towel
- Pencil
- Scissors
Step One: Making The Sign

Lay seven jumbo craft sticks on your work surface to make a square. Use a glue gun to secure a jumbo craft stick to the top and bottom of the square.
Cut a 12-inch length of twine to make a hanger. Turn the sign over and hot glue each end of the yarn to the square’s top left and right-hand sides.
Step Two: Staining The Sign

Add a little water to the dark brown acrylic craft paint. Use a brush or roller to paint the mixture onto the sign and wipe away any excess paint with a paper towel. This will make it look as if it has been stained.
Step Three: Cutting Out The Heart

Download the heart template, print it, and cut it out. Use it as a template to trace a heart onto the corrugated cardboard. Cut out.
Step Four: Preparing The Yarn

Cut long lengths of yarn. Tie the ends of the yarn together. Glue the knot to the back of the heart with a dab of hot glue or tape. We used red and pink in our project, but you can use any combination of colors.
Step Five: Wrap The Heart

Begin wrapping the yarn around the cardboard heart. Keep wrapping the yarn around the heart until it is completely covered and you can’t see any cardboard.
It is helpful to secure the yarn with a dot of glue every sixth wrap or so. Try to keep the wrapping reasonably even.

Once you have covered the entire heart, secure both ends of the yarn to the back of the cardboard heart with hot glue.
Step Six: Attach the Heart To The Sign

Apply a generous amount of glue to the back of the heart and press it firmly onto the middle of the craft stick sign. Apply enough pressure to securely attach the heart to the sign.”
Step Seven: Finishing Touches

A pink gingham bow makes a nice finishing touch. Cut a small notch at both ends of the ribbon to stop it from fraying. Place the bow on the top of the sign with hot glue
