Instructions For Making Tissue Paper Easter Eggs

Safety First: I would not eat the eggs after dyeing them with tissue paper. I cannot guarantee how much dye will be absorbed into the egg and how safe it is to eat.

First, grab two tissue paper squares and wrap them around the egg. You want the paper to be pulled tightly against the egg.

Use a couple of rubber bands to keep wrapped snugly around the egg.

Now, find a cup or bowl and fill it with vinegar. Place the eggs into the vinegar one at a time. Let them soak for about 30 seconds.

Use a spoon to fish out the egg. Leave the tissue paper on until it dries.

Once the eggs are dry, unwrap them and enjoy your transformed eggs. You kids will love this part! Look how pretty they are! They remind me of marbling or even tie-dye.

Tip: When I first started coloring eggs this way, I only stuck with one color of tissue paper. However, I soon discovered that using two colors of tissue paper made for very pretty eggs.

Some Tips For The Best Results

  • The positioning of the rubber band and how you wrap it doesn’t make a big difference—just ensure that the tissue paper is touching the egg.
  • For the best results, using at least two layers of tissue paper is suggested.
  • Stick to just one or two colors for the best results.
  • Don’t leave the eggs in the vinegar too long, or it will bleed out the color.
  • The vinegar will change color, but this doesn’t affect the end results.
  • This dyeing technique works well on white and brown eggs; remember, colors might appear darker on brown ones.
