Christmas Oreo Balls: A No-Bake Delight
Christmas Oreo balls are a delightful addition to any holiday cookie platter. These little gems hold a special place in my heart because they are delicious and incredibly easy to make. You can whip up a batch of these delectable treats with just four simple ingredients – Oreos, cream cheese, chocolate, and Christmas sprinkles.

I cherish the memories of making these with my children during the festive season, their eager hands helping crush the Oreos and shape the truffles. And the best part? They’re a crowd-pleaser; no one can resist the rich, creamy centers enveloped in a smooth chocolate coating.

What’s In Christmas Oreo balls?

- Oreos: Crushed Oreos form the flavorful and crunchy base of these truffle balls.
- Full-Fat Brick Cream Cheese: Full-fat brick cream cheese is mixed with crushed Oreos to create a rich and creamy filling. The full-fat brick cream cheese will make firmer truffles. We would recommend avoiding the kind of cream cheese that comes in tubs.
- Chocolate Coating: The truffle balls are coated in a smooth layer of melted chocolate, adding a decadent finishing touch. For the best results, use high-quality chocolate.
- Sprinkles or Toppings: Christmas sprinkles add a festive touch and come in various colors and shapes.
How to make Christmas Oreo Balls
Making And Forming the Oreo Balls
The first step involves crushing the Oreo cookies (cream filling and all). You can do this by placing them in a large Ziploc bag and gently breaking them into coarse crumbs using a rolling pin or opt for the convenience of a food processor. These crumbs provide the foundation for your truffle mixture’s rich and flavorful base.

Next, add the crushed Oreos to a mixing bowl along with the cream cheese. Mix these two ingredients together thoroughly until they combine well.

Once your Oreo and cream cheese mixture is well combined, it’s time to shape it into the balls. Scoop out the mixture and form it into 1-inch balls. Place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Once the Christmas Oreo balls are formed, they need some chill time. Pop them in the refrigerator for at least one hour, or if you’re in a hurry, the freezer for about 30 minutes will do the trick.
Why the chill, you ask? The balls need to be cold and solid when it’s time to dip them in chocolate. If they are too soft, they may fall apart when you dip them in the warm, melted chocolate. We definitely want to avoid that!

Dipping The Christmas Oreo balls

Dipping the Christmas Oreo balls might seem daunting, but it’s not as hard as you might think. The secret is to start with great chocolate. I prefer a good quality chocolate bar such as Lindt of Ghirardelli.
You can also use the baking chocolate in your local grocery store, but I find that it is not as good.
Now is the time to melt the chocolate. You can use a double boiler on the stove or melt it in the microwave. If you choose the microwave, heat it in short bursts of 20 seconds, stirring each time until it becomes smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can happen quickly.
Tip: Melted chocolate is hot and can cause burns. Supervise children carefully.
After melting the chocolate, let it rest and cool slightly for 5 minutes. Now, it’s time to dip those delicious treats. Gently place a chilled Oreo ball into the melted chocolate and twirl it around to coat evenly. A candy dipping tool like this can be handy for this job. Otherwise, a fork and toothpick will work. Balance the Oreo ball on the prongs of the fork for dipping. Push the truffle off the fork with the toothpick.

Place the Oreo balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Add the Christmas sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet. Put the baking sheet in the refrigerator to set the chocolate.
How To Get The Best Results
- Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for smoother blending.
- Prepare these treats in stages, make the balls, refrigerate them overnight, and dip them the next day.
- Avoid chocolate chips as they contain an ingredient that stops them from melting.
- If your chocolate seems too thick, add 1/2 tsp of oil.
- Dip the Christmas Oreo balls in 3 batches, leaving the undipped treats in the refrigerator.
- If the balls lose their shape while dipping, place them back in the refrigerator to firm up again.

Fun Ways To Dress Up Your Christmas Oreo Balls
Here are some fun ways to dress up your treats:
- Change up the topping: Add a burst of color using different colored sprinkles. You might also crush some candy canes. It’s a simple way to make your Oreo truffles look festive and appealing.
- Chocolate Drizzle: Once your truffles have set, drizzle them with melted white or dark chocolate. Fill a squeeze bottle with melted chocolate and drizzle it over your truffles.
- Creative Coatings: Experiment with coatings like crushed nuts, oreo crumbs, or coconut flakes. Sprinkle them on freshly dipped truffles while the chocolate is wet to add unique textures and flavors to your treats.
- Different Colors: Dip the Christmas Oreo balls in candy melts for a fun change. They won’t taste quite as chocolatey, but they will look pretty. You could use green or red melts for a festive look.

How To Store Christmas Oreo Balls
We can almost guarantee that these delicious treats won’t last long. However, cream cheese is perishable, so any leftover treats should be stored in the refrigerator. They shouldn’t be stored for more than a week.
